These are places where an investigation is underway and no groundwater sample result has exceeded the Part 201 Cleanup Criteria for groundwater used as drinking water. The Criteria is 70 parts per trillion (ppt) PFOS+PFOA.
These areas are being investigated because either a source has been confirmed nearby or there is a probable source nearby. These areas may include residential well sampling adjacent to a suspected source, or other sampling that may suggest or confirm a source of PFAS.
Sampling starts in some areas for a variety of reasons. Muskegon County Airport began sampling in residential areas after staff from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) recognized the historical use of firefighting foam containing PFAS used at the airport and the numerous residential wells nearby. The Kentwood Landfill was sampled by Kent County because the City of Kentwood was concerned about potential groundwater contamination from the landfill.
If on-site sampling at an "Area of Interest" results in one or more groundwater sample exceeding the Part 201 Cleanup Criteria for groundwater used as drinking water of 70 ppt of PFOS+PFOA, these locations will get moved to the Michigan PFAS sites page but will still be shown on this page under the header "Former Areas of Interest" to retain historical record.
In support of Executive Order 帝豪棋牌-42, MPART has temporarily suspended testing of private wells unless there is an extraordinary circumstance that warrants testing or another response.
Other site investigation activities may also be delayed or postponed as a result.
